![]() ![]() Perhaps they have been sold or franchised and folks are riding on the name-and it's a dream of a marketing name: Sugarfire. My take is that this place was at one point (a long while ago) fantastic and they had fantastic food that sold out constantly. Definitely expensive for what was received and near inedible. Collard greens tasted like they had been pickled in apple cider vinegar and then cooked for a minute with some pork. It's elbow noodles with chipped brisket and another mystery white sauce again. Sounds like it should be! But only if you've *never* had real beef stroganoff and/or homemade baked mac and cheese. Like maybe they were cleaning out the fridge? "We've got tots in the freezer, leftover brisket and lettuce.let's turn them into nachos and call it bbq?" The brisket stroganoff was NOT great. Nothing in it was reminiscent of bbq or nachos. It was presented beautifully but the taste was bland. The totchos were just sonic tater tots with nacho fixings and about 5 pieces of dry brisket on top with a "white sauce". The Smoked salmon sandwich was prepared well and pretty good! Everything else was below average. Sides were brisket stroganoff and collard greens. The order: a special that day called "BBQ Totchos" and a smoked salmon sandwich. Caveat: when SugarFire catered my work function in 2019 it was bomb and everyone talked about how good it was for like a month! I expected the same. We went on a weekday and it was bare bones. So this place is famous and it's very charming location is awesome. My family is from the south AND east so I understand excellent foods, different palates, and the art of the sell. And bbq? Smoked bbq? Omg bring it please. Because there is nothing I love more than a good meal. The chairs sit so low that I felt like I was scraping food off the table into my mouth.would I come back? You bet! Did I mention how amazing the ribs are?!?! And, the outdoor chairs were wilding uncomfortable (this is a frequent complaint in my reviews).the chairs are meant to be outdoor lounge seating not outdoor dining chairs - they lean too far back and the height is not conducive to short diners (like myself). They have outdoor seating which was ample but lacked any real ambiance (the restaurant is in a strip mall). It was a complete disservice to eat those delicious ribs with that sauce! Overall, it was a good dining experience. I tried the coffee BBQ sauce and it was outstanding! I’m pretty sure I could just eat it with a spoon! I also tried their “Carolina mustard” sauce, which is typically style I LOVE.this one, however, basically tasted like yellow hotdog mustard. The cucumber salad was kinda greasy/oily - not a fan. Both were fine I guess.not much flavor actually. I chose slaw and a cucumber salad as my two sides. Their selection of local beers is decent, but could be stronger given the fantastic craft beer scene in St. ![]() A half rack was plenty for me.I couldn’t have eaten another one. The BBQ ribs did not disappoint.they a great balance of “bark” in the outside and tender on the inside. Stopped off at Sugar Fire for an early dinner.
